The Book of Jasher is cited by name in the Hebrew Bible itself — twice, in Joshua and 2 Samuel — yet it was never included in the canon. This means the compilers of the Old Testament were aware of a book they considered authoritative enough to quote but chose not to include. The reasons have never been satisfactorily explained.
