The Clementine Recognitions is a novel-length early Christian text narrating how Clement of Rome — the third or fourth bishop of Rome after Peter — joined Peter’s mission, followed him in his debates with Simon Magus, and eventually discovered that his long-lost family had all converted independently and were scattered across the Mediterranean. The “recognitions” of the title are the family reunio
