Confessio Fraternitatis

The Second Rosicrucian Manifesto

The Confessio Fraternitatis is more explicit than the Fama and more aggressive. It announces a coming universal reformation — a transformation of all knowledge, all religion, and all politics that is already underway. It attacks the Pope as the Antichrist. It claims the Brotherhood possesses the Universal Medicine and the Philosopher’s Stone. It invites all learned men to respond.

Before you read

Context without the mythology.

Codex ISO separates the surviving evidence from later interpretation, so you can encounter the text without being told what to believe about it first.

01 / Historical context

Published Kassel 1615. Companion text to the Fama. More explicitly alchemical and anti-Papal than its predecessor. Immediately condemned by Jesuit authorities.

02 / Why it matters

The Jesuits condemned it. The Scientific Revolution followed anyway.

From / associated with the text
“We do testify that after a time there will now be a general reformation both of divine and human things, according to our desire, and the expectation of others.”
THE CODEX STANDARD

Source before story.
